Club History

Alan Deneka The club was founded by Alan Deneka on January 2006 by inviting Rolls Royce and Airbus employees who wanted to play badminton in the local leagues. Training was offered to increase the aggression and competitiveness of each member as well as tactical and defensive lessons. Other members joined from Orange, NHS… Friendly Matches were set up to give everyone a taster of what playing in a real match would be like – we had some amazing defeats but now we know what to do! We started out on two courts at Patchway School, but the club soon out grew this venue, we needed four courts and we found temporary accomodation for the summer of 2006 at Redmaids School. We then moved to our now permanent home at Bradley Stoke Community School. We entered five teams in the Bristol and Mid Glous leagues in our first season, with our mens first team gaining promotion in the Bristol league. 2007-08 saw only 4 teams entered as we had to drop a mixed team. In 2008-09 we were back up to 5, with both Bristol mens first and second teams gaining promotion to the 3rd and 4th divisions respectively, the mens first team aquiring the clubs first silverware. 2009 also saw the start of the Avon Jets junior club.
